Citing Federal Law, City Council Votes to Shut Down Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in Longmont, Colorado

Seven city council members in the city of Longmont, Colorado who’s population is 82,000+ have unanimously voted for a measure that will effectively ban medical marijuana dispensaries, starting July 1st of this year.  The decision by city council members was met with much debate at the last city council hearing but councilman Gabe Santos, a councilman that talked with the local Westword Magazine cited Federal Law for the reason of the councils decision.

Unfortunately, the federal law states that distribution or sale of marijuana is against the law. I have stated numerous times that if people want to see medical marijuana legal there is a process to do that.

Santos’ arrogance continues as he tells patients how to ‘really’ pass a law while the council is but one vote from reversing an existing ordinance

I have no problem with a member of congress running a bill through the house or the senate and getting it passed and sending it to the President’s desk for signature and declassifying marijuana so medical marijuana prescriptions could be written by an actual doctor..

The Longmont City Council will hold a second reading on Tuesday, May 24th. If the ban is approved again by the city council it will become effective and shut down the seven medical marijuana dispensaries in Longmont.

This is a huge slap in the face for medical marijuana patients in Longmont, Colorado where the future of medical marijuana looks very ominous.  Read more at Westword article..
